Community-based organizations serve people in crisis every day– but when you're the ones in crisis, most emergency and resilience planning falls short. Traditional continuity planning treats organizations like machines that need fixing rather than living systems that can grow through disruption. TRC's Nonprofit & CBO Resilience Coaching recognizes that your organization's challenges are interconnected—from funding vulnerabilities to staff capacity to community relationships—and your solutions need to reflect that complexity. This work goes beyond creating dusty binders that sit on shelves; it's about building practical resilience that keeps your doors open and your mission in motion when everything else is falling apart.
Through our partnership, you'll develop the confidence to not just survive crises, but continue serving your community effectively through disruptions. You'll create and/or update practical continuity plans that become competitive advantages in grant applications, showing funders you're proactive, strategic, and committed to long-term stability. Your team will gain clarity on roles, decision-making processes, and ethical frameworks they can trust under pressure. Most importantly, you'll strengthen the partnerships and support networks that become lifelines during challenging times. This isn't just protection—it's positioning your organization for sustainable practice through uncertainty.
The first phase of our work focuses on establishing your internal resilience foundation over the first 5 sessions. We'll develop actionable continuity plans, identify material and non-material resources, and facilitate crucial conversations about ethics and policy decisions your team may face under pressure. You'll create clear risk and crisis communication strategies while addressing your staff's specific questions and concerns about emergency procedures. This foundation work includes functional exercises to test your plans in a no-stakes environment, ensuring your team feels confident rather than overwhelmed by the process.
The final 3 sessions shift focus to how your organization continues serving your community during emergencies and disasters significantly impacting your staff and clients. We'll build comprehensive crisis communication plans for communicating with clients and program participants, resource distribution strategies, and personnel management approaches that account for staff dealing with crisis in their own lives. You'll develop client management frameworks for triaging services and ensuring safety during disruptions. Partnership mapping will identify and strengthen key relationships now, so you know exactly who to call for help when you're maxed out on time, resources, or energy.
Our work together includes 8 coaching sessions over 6 months, with a front-loaded schedule that provides intensive foundation building followed by practical implementation. All sessions after the first include full staff participation, with mandatory site visits for various sessions to ensure we're working with your organization's actual context and constraints. Your package includes a follow-up check-in 3 months after we complete the core sessions, giving you space to practice and integrate what you've learned. This timeline ensures you have the support you need to build lasting resilience while respecting the demanding schedules of Nonprofit and CBO leadership and staff. During Session 7, we'll discuss a customized retainer offer to facilitate resilience plan maintenance and ongoing coaching support as your organization grows and faces new challenges.
